Precious Opal

This gem opal specimen is from the Spencer Opal Mine in Idaho, USA and was recovered in 1973. This large cabinet specimen is from our private collection, we acquired the specimen in 2009. The opal was collected by David and Joy Estebrook and remained in their possession until Holey Stones acquired it. The wide band of precious opal that is exposed on the front of the specimen shows 7 distinct colors! With bright flashes of purple, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and fusha pink. This is an exceptional example of the precious opal that comes from the Spencer Mine. Truly a collectors dream! That being said, the piece is also highly cuttable and therefore it is also a lapidary's dream. This large piece will produce many many finished stones of excellent quality. Whether you are a collector, or a lapidary, this stone will be a wonderful addition to any collection.

This gem bearing specimen measures approx. 5 1/2" x 2 1/2" x 3 1/2", and weighs 2 lbs. 0.0 oz. The seam of exposed precious opal measures approx. 4" x 3/4" on the front of the piece and approx 1" x 1/2" on the back, side, of the piece.
